Jay Woelfel has spent his career working in all phases of production and post production in film, HD, video, online and interactive productions. Jay won the Interactive Academy Award for Best Documentary for TITANIC, a project he wrote and directed which was narrated by Patrick Stewart. It is one of five awards Titanic has won since its release in 1994. In 1993 he won an OEB and TWO EMMY awards for his production of NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE'S THE BIRTHMARK. THE BIRTHMARK has aired Nationally on PBS since the award.
He edited the Academy Award nominated short film BRONX CHEERS. On the strength of his body of work Jay Woelfel was selected by The United States Information Agency as one of the six best film students in the United States to represent it at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival.
In recognition of Jay's career-to-date, The Ohio State University recently included him in their first ever Buckeye Brilliance permanent display of outstanding achievements by graduates. Considering the vast number of previous university graduates, Jay is extremely proud to be included in the limited selection of honorees.
He’s been a special guest and spoken at The CANNES FILM FESTIVAL, The AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE, The PHILIP K DICK FILM FESTIVAL, OUTER WORLDS FILM FESTIVAL, GLENDALE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL and THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY AND HORROR FILMS. In his spare time he has lectured about filmmaking at UCLA, OSU, IFP West, Cal State Northridge, and University of Bowling Green. He also served on the screening selection committee for the Science Fiction and Horror Academy and has acted as a judge for the MOFA film festival. As a published writer he was recommended for the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for best short horror fiction of the year.
